Ultrafast broadband

Ultrafast Broadband (UFB) is New Zealand’s Government initiated and backed fibre to the premise (FttP) rollout. The program of work commenced in 2011 courtesy of four Local Fibre Companies (LFCs) that were selected for the project. Initial targets have all been met with metro areas complete, additional smaller towns are now being connected.

Where's UFB Available?

UFB services are largely provided in a uniform fashion (in terms of speed and price points at least), but the actual delivery is handled by 4 different fibre companies (Chorus, Enable, Tuatahi First Fibre, Northpower) with a clear geographical mandate provided to each carrier by the Government.

A quick word of thanks and appreciation for the service and support we have received from Matt, Rahman and David over the past few months. They have been excellent, knowledgeable, very helpful and always happy to go over and beyond.

The design we have implemented is solid and tested very well during our DR and failover testing. All the VPN, Firewall and WAN site cutovers have gone smoothly and largely without issue.

Your accounts and development team have also been great, they have been responsive to any queries.

For me it’s reassuring and justifies our decision to move to Lightwire Business. Please pass on my thanks to the team, keep up the great work.

I just wanted to say a huge thank to you and your staff. Every experience my team and I have had with Lightwire has been overwhelmingly positive. I had comments from a staff member again today saying how efficient and knowledgeable the Lightwire support staff are.

So thanks from all the team at Unit Networks, your team makes light work of what can sometimes be very challenging situations.

Service types and speed

UFB is a catch all term for FttP services provided under the rollout, with options under that umbrella term divided into three key categories, BS2, BS3 and BS4.

BS2 is a single VLAN capable best effort service with a maximum speed of Max/500 (“Max” meaning access speed of 1Gbps, but real world speeds a little below that). BS2 services may have an SLA with a slower restore target, but that varies by carrier/location.

BS3 offers symmetrical best effort Max/Max speeds, multi-VLAN capability and comes with an enterprise SLA across all 4 UFB providers.

BS4 is P2P enterprise service offering committed speeds, multi-VLAN capability with an enterprise SLA and priority install.

Why Lightwire's UFB?

Congestion Free Network

Speed is a critical factor in determining whether an Internet Service Provider (ISP) is up to scratch, and one of the easiest ways for an ISP to ensure that it can provide the best possible speeds is to run a network free of congestion.

Lightwire invests heavily in our network with our most utilised handovers averaging less than 50% of their capacity – meaning your client will receive a quality internet service with minimal latency.

Availability & Price

All services come with unlimited data, static IP, free install, 24/7 Lightwire support, and illume – your advantage in providing the best possible experience for your clients.

Service pricing and speeds depend on location, head to our Service Qualification (SQ) tool to find the right option for your customer.
